The Webster's Dictionary defines coffee as:

a: a beverage made by percolation, infusion, or decoction from the roasted and ground seeds of a coffee plant

b: any of several Old World tropical plants (genus Coffea and especially C. arabica and C. canephora) of the madder family that are widely cultivated in warm regions for their seeds from which coffee is prepared

c: coffee seeds especially roasted and often ground

Taste:

The taste profile of the Robusta bean is generally described as "burnt tires or rubbery". One of the reasons is because Robusta has more caffeine, which carries a bitter taste. 

Arabica has 60% more lipids and almost twice the concentration of sugar. This is the factor that has the biggest impact on why Arabica is prefered. 

Physical attributes:

Arabica plants grow between 2.5-4.5 meters, while Robusta reach a height of 4.5-6 meters. Robusta beans are much more circular, whereas Arabica are more oval. 

Coffees that meet the following criteria:  Certified organic.  They may also carry certifications for Fair Trade, Bird Friendly, Rain Forest Alliance or Shade Grown.

Absolutely!  We recommend that you invest in a coffee grinder, if possible.  It's best to grind right before you are about to brew.  Once coffee is ground it starts losing its flavor.  The longer it sits, it becomes less desirable.  When you find the coffee you want, you can choose the quantity and your preferred grind method.

Grind options.

We recommend storing your coffee, whole bean, in an air tight container, out of the sunlight.  Avoid freezing or refrigeration if possible.  If you do freeze or refrigerate, remember to let the coffee come to room temperature before you attempt to brew.

As awesome as coffee is, it is still just a crop and it can not always be available year round or year to year.  Our blends are the most constant offerings.  We do have some coffee variatals that will almost always be available and every once in a while we like to grab some bags of something else to mix it up.  Those coffees will only be available for a limited time.

Not much.  The common myth/misunderstanding here is that there are even espresso beans.  There is no such thing as an espresso plant, so it can't produce espresso beans.

Beans that you use to make espresso are the same as regular coffee beans.

Espresso is a method in which coffee is ground and brewed.  We have several blends that we made with shots of espresso in mind, but any coffee can be used to make espresso.  Some are more preferable than others.

Zeke was the nickname for Edwin Rhodes, the father of Thomas Rhodes, who started Zeke's Coffee.  Thomas was getting things in order to open up shop and was searching for a name for the business when sadly, Edwin passed away.  In honor of his father, he chose to name the company Zeke's Coffee.

Our coffee is sourced from the main coffee growing regions of the world.

We are roasting coffee every day to keep up with supplying our café, wholesale customers, farmers markets and online store orders.  Depending on where you get your coffee can make a difference in freshness, but typically it was likely roasted 2-6 days ago.  We have a roast or blend number that can be found on the bottom of the bag.  Feel free to send an email or give us a ring with the roast or blend number and we can tell you when it was roasted.

Yes.  We have a number of decaf blends and varietals.  They can be found here.

We roast our coffee in a fluid bed roaster.  Coffee is placed in a chamber and hot air is blown into the chamber that allows for the beans to be evenly roasted to a specific temperature.

Yes!  We offer chocolate covered coffee beans year round at our café.  Due to warm weather we can not offer them at farmers markets or for shipment online year round.  They can be seen online and at markets during the "chocolate" season (Halloween to Easter). 

We have roasting facilities in Baltimore and Washington DC.  We have two cafes in Baltimore and three in DC.

All coffee is shipped out of Baltimore.  If you are in the DC area and would like to support our roastery there, you can check out their website.  They offer curbside pick up at both of their locations and you can pre-order for DC area farmers' markets as well.

Coffee is naturally caffeinated.  There are no decaf coffee plants, so the caffeine needs to be extracted when raw.  Click here if you would like to learn more about this process.

• UPS orders are processed and leave our facility the next business day.

We have partnered with a company called Route.  They offer shipping insurance for your order.  The option for insurance functions as a widget that gets blocked by some ad blockers.  If you turn off your ad blocker, you will be able to choose whether you would like the insurance or not.  Once you have made your decision you will be able to advance to the checkout screen.

On our website, when you are presented with shipping options, the options provide an ESTIMATED delivery time.  These estimations are generated by UPS ans the USPS.  

We can not change this and it is not a guarantee that your coffee will arrive in 1 day after purchase.

USPS orders placed after 10 AM EST will be processed and shipped out the next business day. Orders are going out on time; however, due to COVID-19, the USPS is a bit overwhelmed and they are not properly tracking all of their packages. Most orders are arriving on time. Some orders are experiencing delays in shipping which we have no control over. It could take up to a week for your coffee to be delivered, especially if it is ordered near a holiday, like Mother's Day.

UPS orders will ship out the next business day.

Once the coffee has left our facility it is in the hands of the carrier and there is nothing we can do to speed up your delivery.

If you placed your order over a week ago, please reach out to us and we will investigate the situation and determine the best course of action to get your order to you.

All coffee is shipped out of Baltimore.  Shipping prices are determined by UPS and USPS and are based on shipping zones, weight and size of the packages.  We have no control over these prices.

Well, if you are still reading, it must have to do with the fact that you do not have a gift card for this site.  So here are the other options of where your gift card is redeemable:

• If you purchased a gift card from a Zeke's Coffee DC location, it is only redeemable with them.  Please visit their site to use your gift card.
  
• If you have a physical gift card purchased in Baltimore, it is for our cafe.  This website and the farmers markets do not accept physical gift cards.
• If you have an electronic gift card that has a 16 digit number similar to a credit card number, you have a gift card that is redeemable at the cafe.  Click "View Your eGift Card" to activate your card and then head to our cafes website and you can add it during checkout.
• If you have an electronic gift card that has a 16 digit ALPHA-NUMERIC code, congratulations!  You are on the correct website.  Click Shop Now on the main menu to get started.

We have decided to move to a more streamlined way of setting up subscriptions. Any coffee that we can confidently offer year-round, now has the option to make a one-time purchase or to sign up for a subscription.

Seasonal coffees, limited offerings, half caf coffees and some decaf coffees are not available for subscription.

When you sign up for a subscription your payment method will be charged upfront for the coffee and shipping costs.

Your subscription orders will now be processed as regular orders. This means that if you sign up for a subscription on a Wednesday night, your first pound will go out the next day, in this instance, Thursday. In this scenario, your remaining pounds will be shipped out on Thursdays going forward.

If you select Charm City for a subscription and want to receive two or more pounds in your delivery, you can simply adjust the quantity before adding to the cart.

If we unfortunately are unable to provide you with the coffee you selected for a subscription, we will contact you via email to offer a substitute, refund or offer to pause your subscription until we are able to source the coffee again.

Discount codes are not redeemable for subscriptions.

We have sample packs that are available at our café and farmers markets.  If you would like sample packs shipped you will have to email orders@zekescoffee.com or call the roastery at 443-992-4388 to place a special order. For regular larger orders, you may inquire about a wholesale account here.

First off, congratulations!  If you are looking to have our coffee served at your wedding, feel free to have your caterer contact us about making this happen.  If you're doing a DIY event, give us a ring (443-992-4388) or send an email (orders@zekescoffee.com).

If you are looking for something along the lines of wedding favors, we offer sample packs of our coffee.  Email for pricing.

• They come pre-ground for a 12 cup pot of coffee (2 oz).
• Your guests just have to cut them open and put them in their coffee makers at home.
• We offer them in black, silver, purple or blue foil bags.
• We can do a custom label.
• These are made to order so we need a week to make sure they are ready for you.  The coffee needs to degas or the bags will start to pop.
• Any of the coffees that you see available at the $16 can be packaged in sample packs.

Grocery stores and other retailers purchase coffee from us in bulk and we give them a wholesale rate with a suggested retail price.  If they wish to pass the savings on to you, that is their choice.  Don't worry, they're probably over charging you on something else to make up for it.
